A paralyzed dog named Lunita was first found lying face down on a sidewalk in Argentina with her hind legs attached to a broken wheelchair. Beside her was a note with her name and a message that said they couldn’t keep her. Immediately after discovering her, the local animal rescue LUBA Salta was contacted and two volunteers showed up to take her to the nearest vet clinic.
There she received proper treatment for all of her urgent medical issues. After that, they worked on fitting her with a working wheelchair and when she recovered, she definitely enjoyed doing zoomies with it.
Lunita slowly started to come back to life. And the rescuers were all very excited to get her a family that would not only love her but also give her the best possible care for her special needs. So, they started an online campaign to find her a home.
A family in the US expressed interest to adopt her and so a fundraiser was launched to cover all her travel expenses. They collected enough money to ship her over but sadly, things didn’t work out well with the family and Lunita was back again in foster care. During that time, she got a staph infection, had scabies, and was also severely underweight.
Her story and the challenges she faced were posted online where it caught a lot of public attention. And one family was particularly touched by her story and decided to take her in. Lunita thrived with her new family as she was well taken care of and given all the love. Slowly, she became comfortable in her new home.
But their time with her was cut short. After her eleventh birthday, Lunita fell seriously ill and with her age, her family figured it was best that they let go of her. She may have crossed the rainbow bridge a bit too soon but she did so surrounded by the ones who loved her the most.
