Pitbulls have a reputation as dangerous dogs. That is why pitbulls in shelters are not the popular choices among those who are looking to adopt a dog. And a dog rescued from a dogfighting ring with a tough looking exterior has little chance of finding a loving forever home.
Mr. Breakfast is a pitbull who has overcome his traumatic past. While he was lucky to be rescued from dogfighting, his behavior problems caused him to be returned to the shelter twice before the right match was made. Besides trust issues, Mr. Breakfast is deaf which makes it hard to communicate with him.
When Liz found Mr. Breakfast she could see past his tough exterior to his goofy personality. He made grunting noises that she found adorable. The fact that Mr. Breakfast was deaf was not a problem for Liz. She had experience with deaf dogs.
Liz taught Mr. Breakfast sign language. He was a little unsure so Liz started looking for ways to build trust and communication with Mr. Breakfast. She found a dog surfing class and Mr. Breakfast seemed to enjoy it and was a quick learner. Over time he gained more confidence and became obsessed with surfing. Surfing is now their bonding activity.
Mr. Breakfast has a whole new outlook on life. He is always smiling, tail wagging, happy and outgoing.
