Apart from going missing or getting stolen, another scenario that would be heart-breaking for dog parents is if their pupper was killed by a wild animal. Although this scary scenario is unlikely, it is possible and it’s happening to many fur babies across the states.
Fortunately, most of the doggos survive these horrifying attacks and one of those survivors is Blue. The Chihuahua belongs to Cheri Reaves, a resident of Greensboro, North Carolina.
One fateful evening, when Cheri called all of her doggos from her yard, Blue did not come inside. Worried about her little pooch, the dog mom stepped outside to search for him. Cheri was shocked to find her little Chihuahua, limping and covered in blood.
Cheri rushed Blue to the emergency vet and luckily, they were able to save his life. The dog mom was clueless regarding what happened out in her yard, but the vet was able to fill her in. It turned out that the pupper was attacked by a hawk. The wounds on his body confirm this, and Blue’s vet had seen this many times before.
Experts from the Greensboro Science Center explained that predatory birds hunt for small animals, but they’re not particularly looking to prey on small doggos. That’s why humans who have toy doggos should be extra vigilant, as these tiny pups are the usual victims of this kind of attack.
Cheri was elated that Blue is already out of harm’s way, but the pooch will still undergo another surgery. The senior doggo has puncture wounds on his body, but it is expected to heal eventually. Cheri is hoping that this terrible incident will raise awareness regarding the dangers that predatory birds pose. It is strongly advised that owners of small doggos should keep a close eye on their pets when they are outdoors.
