Not all animals live extraordinary lives – some go through hardships and abuse and aren’t given second chances to live merrily.
Luckily, one senior dog got a great new opportunity to enjoy his remaining years. Found abandoned and left to die on the streets, the old dog seemed to have lost all hope.
The Cincinnati Lab Rescue organization took the old fellow in and provided pain medication to ease his discomfort from his cataracts and glaucoma. The only options for the old lab were either continue as a hospice case or perform the very pricey surgery to have both eyes removed.
Given his age and poor condition, recovery from the surgery would be very difficult. Given all this, he was put on a list to be euthanized.
Fate stepped in when Reddit user “Redhotsedative” decided to make a donation to the Cincinnati Lab Rescue. While checking out the organization’s website, the old black lab caught his attention. The dog reminded him of a blind lab from his childhood.
Reddit user “Redhotsedative” stepped in and paid for the surgery as a donation to the charity. Despite the expensive operation, he made sure he found the means to pay for it. His compassion for the old dog did not stop there. The kind man officially adopted the dog and welcomed him to his brood.
Now, the senior dog has been living with the man for seven months and has finally healed from his surgery. Despite losing his sense of sight, he hasn’t lost his sense of adventure and curiosity. Redditor “Redhotsedative” described the newest member of his family as sweet, clingy, and playful!
The dog would always stay close to him – while he’s working, relaxing, even while he’s doing household chores. It is as if the senior dog could not thank him enough for saving him. For this reason, Reddit user “Redhotsedative” grew more inspired to help out abandoned dogs.
The young man continues to volunteer and foster for the rescue organization. He believes disabled/senior dogs are great for adopting as they appreciate a loving home and emanate joy and love.
